Day 1 leader Sea Toy maintained its first day lead after the second day of fishing in the 17th annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament, making it extremely difficult for the rest of the fleet to catch them during today’s final day of fishing.
Sea Toy, captained by Bull Tolson, leads the field with 13 billfish – one blue marlin and 12 whites.
Complicating the situation for the boats that are fishing today is the fact that the top 10 teams have already completed their allotted two out of three days of fishing.
The 10th place boat – Tippeconoe, captained by Matt Bailey, has seven fish. That means that teams fishing today will have to have a banner effort to take first in the 80-boat event out of Rudee Inlet.
Carolina Time, with Capt. Shane Brafford at the helm, sits in second place with 10 white marlin.
The teams are competing for a total prize payout of $620,000.
After two days of fishing, the teams caught and released a total of 291 billfish that consisted of 18 blue marlin, five sailfish, three spearfish and 265 white marlin.
